Job Summary

The Food Service Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of food service operations at Empowerment Dream Center. This includes menu planning, meal preparation, staff management, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about serving the community, possess strong organizational skills, and have experience in food service management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Menu Planning and Meal Preparation:

    • Develop nutritious, balanced, and appealing menus that cater to the dietary needs of shelter residents.

    • Oversee the preparation and serving of meals, ensuring high standards of quality and presentation.

  • Staff Management:

    • Train, and supervise kitchen staff and volunteers.

  • Budgeting and Inventory Management:

    • Manage the food service budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.

    • Oversee inventory control, including ordering supplies and maintaining accurate records.

  • Compliance and Safety:

    • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including food safety and sanitation standards.

    • Conduct regular inspections and audits to maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment.

  • Community Engagement:

    • Foster relationships with local food banks, donors, and suppliers to secure food donations and discounts.

    • Collaborate with other departments to support holistic care for shelter residents.

  • Program Development:

    • Implement programs that promote healthy eating and nutrition education among residents.

    • Continuously seek opportunities to improve and innovate food service operations.



  • Certification in Food Service Management, or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food service management, preferably in a nonprofit or shelter setting.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and practices.

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

  • Passion for serving vulnerable populations and commitment to the mission of Empowerment Dream Center.
